Samsung Smart TV Challenge website opens - gives European developers the opportunity to win a total of €500,000 for creating innovative applications for Smart TVs
LONDON, 30 September, 2010 — Samsung Electronics today opened the “Samsung Smart TV Challenge”, a Europe wide competition to find the most innovative applications for Internet@TVs, Blu-ray players and Blu-ray Home Theater Systems.
Through the Smart TV Challenge, Samsung is pioneering a new era of Smart TV by helping developers tap into this ever growing market. By registering online at www.SamsungSmartTVChallenge.eu, developers can download the SDK (Software Developer Kit) for apps, and begin developing the future of Smart TV. Entries will be judged on idea quality, functional implementation, and visual appeal. A total prize fund of €500,000 will be allocated between those developers offering the most compelling applications. Consumers will also have an opportunity to cast their votes online for their favorite Apps and get a chance to win an LED 9000 TV.
Applicants need to submit the final app and provide a video that showcases how the app works to Samsung by 30 December, 2010. The winners will be announced in February 2011.
The European Apps contest demonstrates Samsung’s commitment to providing a tailored Smart TV experience in the home. Samsung Apps puts consumers in control of their TV viewing experience. With Samsung Internet@TV, viewers can watch the movie of their choice, turn the TV into a blackjack table, talk to loved ones overseas and more.
Michael Zoeller, Samsung’s European Marketing Director for TV & AV, commented, “Opening up Samsung Apps to developers, will encourage the emergence of a whole new generation of localized content. Ultimately, it will give additional satisfaction to our customers and increase the number and variety of available Apps.”
